INHERITANCE MATTERS INVOLVING JAPAN AND OVERSEAS ASSETS
Cross-border inheritance matters may arise where the deceased, the heirs or the estate assets are located in different countries.
They may involve Japanese bank accounts, securities, real estate or other assets, as well as heirs residing overseas who need to complete inheritance procedures in Japan without being physically present.
LPA Administrative Scrivener Corporation assists with the collection and preparation of inheritance documents, identification of heirs, communications with banks and authorities, and coordination of procedures involving Japan and other jurisdictions. We have particular experience in Japan–France inheritance matters, including estates involving French financial institutions, Japanese family-register documents and heirs residing in either country.
Where the estate includes real estate in Japan, we work in coordination with LPA Judicial Scrivener Office, which handles inheritance registration and other related real estate registration procedures. Where tax, contentious or foreign-law advice is required, we also coordinate with the appropriate tax advisers, lawyers, notaries and other specialists.
HOW WE CAN ASSIST
WILLS AND SUCCESSION PLANNING
We assist with the preparation of wills in Japan and with succession planning involving assets or family members connected with Japan. Where assets are located in France, we can coordinate with a French notary to address the Japanese and French aspects of the succession.
HEIR IDENTIFICATION AND ESTATE DISTRIBUTION
We assist with identifying and confirming the heirs, collecting the required family and civil-status records, and preparing inheritance division agreements and related documents. We also coordinate the procedures required to distribute the estate in accordance with the heirs’ agreement.
REAL ESTATE IN JAPAN AND FRANCE
We assist with inheritance documents relating to real estate in Japan and France. Japanese inheritance registration is handled with LPA Judicial Scrivener Office, while French property and succession formalities are coordinated with a French notary.
